Thailand Animal Quarantine (AQ) Guide

Before dogs and cats leave Thailand, they are normally required to visit the Animal Quarantine (AQ) Office of the Department of Livestock Development (DLD) for an official veterinary examination and export document processing.

Animal Examination

An official government veterinarian will:

• Verify your pet's identity

• Scan the microchip

• Review vaccination records

• Check the required export documents

• Perform a general health examination

The veterinary examination typically takes around 50 minutes, although this may vary depending on the number of appointments.

Export Document Processing

After the examination, the Animal Quarantine Office prepares and issues the official export documents.

Document processing typically takes approximately 90 minutes.

Office Hours

The Animal Quarantine Office normally operates Monday to Friday in two sessions:

Morning Session

• 09:00 – 12:00

Afternoon Session

• 13:00 – 16:00

The office is closed on Thai public holidays unless otherwise announced.

Processing Time

Most appointments can be completed within the same day.

However, processing may take longer during:

• The first working day after public holidays

• Peak travel seasons

• High-volume periods

• Unexpected government system delays

During busy periods, total processing time may extend beyond the normal schedule.
