CITES Appendix III

CITES Appendix III includes species that are protected by individual countries and for which those countries have requested international cooperation to help regulate trade.

Unlike Appendix I and Appendix II, Appendix III listings are initiated by a single country rather than by all CITES member countries. The goal is to help prevent illegal trade and ensure that exports are properly documented.

Examples of Appendix III Species

Can These Animals Travel?

Yes. Appendix III species can usually be imported or exported legally when the required documentation has been issued by the appropriate government authority.

Depending on the exporting country and destination, documents may include:

• CITES Export Permit

• Certificate of Origin

• Veterinary Health Certificate

• Import Permit (if required)

• Other country-specific documents

Important Information

Although Appendix III has fewer restrictions than Appendix I or Appendix II, owners must still comply with:

• CITES regulations

• The laws of the exporting country

• The import requirements of the destination country

• Airline policies for transporting live animals
